Today I am thankful....

...that we do not own this house. I noticed a small leak coming from the light fixture in our hall bathroom and called our housing office to come take a look. Well, it's not just a small leak in the light/fan, it's all over the attic. It's making bubbles in the ceiling, and all the way down the wall. They counter top is swollen too. When the gentleman arrived to take a look, he said there was a pipe in the attic that had sprung a small leak. Well, a small leak would take a long time to produce as much damage as I see in the bathroom. A leak, in the nice hot attic sounds like the perfect place for a mold infestation if you ask me....

They cut a 2x2 hole in the ceiling of the bathroom to fix the leak, then screwed some wood up there and said they'd call to schedule a time to come look at the damage. According to maintenance, the wood needs 3-4 days to dry.

All I know is as soon as that hole was opened up, I felt awful. My head was pounding, my nose and eyes were running, and I've been congested since. Matt, Madilyn and I have all been congested a bit lately. I really wonder if the two aren't connected.

I'll be having them check for mold when they come back, and I'm thinking about a second opinion from someone else too. I don't want to be stuck in a moldy house, and I'll admit I'm a little afraid the housing office may not tell the truth.

These pictures really don't do justice to how awful it looks (and smells!).
